Here, in the Northeast, we have very few trade shows and educational venues for those who love and keep pet birds. There are many experienced breeders, bird owners, suppliers and bird enthusiasts in the Northeast who want quality birds, avian supplies, and many who want to learn about keeping pet birds. People want to connect with each other. but seldom do. For these reasons, in 2008, the Northeast Bird Group was founded by several breeders, pet store owners and bird hobbyists. The mission of the Northeast Bird Group is to create the northeast connection with a hands on approach and a club open to all cage bird types.
In the past five years the Northeast Bird Group has held five successful trade shows and marts. The Educational series that were offered FREE to attendees were given by experienced breeders and veterinarians covering topics such as nutrition, outdoor aviary construction, diagnosing bird diseases, finch keeping, cage show pieces and more.
There have been several successful bird shows where exhibitors came from the northeast and beyond to show thier birds. This June, we plan to hold a seminar to teach people how to show thier birds. It is a wonderful sport and people are interested.
